Origin is a technical term to define a registered (top-level) domain (e.g., google.com) in combination with three other components:

  1. network access protocol (e.g., http or https which are often called a “scheme”),
  2. the port associated with network access protocol (e.g., “80” for http and “443” for https), and
  3. the host network address(es) registered to this domain (e.g., the domain name registry links registered site domains to network addresses).[1]
